What happened to FMovies?

FMovies was shut down in August 2024 by Hanoi police working with the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the anti-piracy coalition of the big studios and streamers. The raid also took down myflixer, bflixz, flixtorz, movies7 and aniwave. Every site using the FMovies name today is a copy, not the original.

That is why “fmovies alternative”, “sites like fmovies” and “fmovies reddit” together get well over 100,000 searches every 28 days. The short answer: the original is gone, the copies range from ad-heavy to outright scams, and several free services stream licensed movies legally.

FMovies timeline, 2016–2026

  1. 2016

    FMovies launches and becomes one of the most visited free movie sites.

  2. 2017–2023

    The US Trade Representative lists FMovies in its yearly review of notorious piracy markets.

  3. August 2024

    Hanoi police and ACE shut down FMovies with sister sites bflixz, flixtorz, movies7, myflixer and aniwave, plus the video host vidsrc.to. ACE counts more than 6.7 billion visits from January 2023 to June 2024.

  4. October 2026

    In our test, fmovies.to does not respond while dozens of copies keep using the FMovies name.

FMovies mirror test: 21 domains checked

We took every FMovies domain people search for by name, plus the sites that Similarweb shows getting the clicks for “fmovies”, “fmovies.to” and “fmovies alternative”, and opened each one. None could be tied to the original operators. Out of 21 domains:

  • 9load FMovies-branded copies run by unknown operators (6 directly, 3 through redirects)
  • 1forwards visitors to a survey scam
  • 6are parked or for sale
  • 5return an error or do not respond

Is it illegal to use FMovies?

  • FMovies streamed films without a license; its operators were arrested and its domains taken down.
