What happened to 123Movies?

The original 123Movies shut down in March 2018, after the MPAA called it the most popular illegal site in the world and police in Vietnam opened a criminal investigation. Every site that has used the 123Movies name since then is a copy run by someone else.

Eight years later the name still pulls about 10 million searches every 28 days, and “sites like 123movies”, “123movies alternative” and “123movies reddit” add more than 80,000. The short answer: there is no real 123Movies to go back to, the copies range from catalogs to block pages and APK traps, and several free services stream licensed movies.

    The MPAA tells the US Trade Representative that 123Movies is likely run from Vietnam.

  2. March 2018

    The MPAA calls 123movies.to the most popular illegal site in the world, with about 98 million visitors a month; days later the site announces its shutdown.

    The MPAA says the closure followed a criminal investigation in Vietnam, and that copies had appeared in at least eight other countries.

  4. October 2026

    In our test, 123movies.to does not respond while copies, block pages and APK sites use the name.
