How Much Does a Static IP Address Cost? ISP, VPN and Cloud Prices Compared

What a static IP really costs: ISP static IPs need a business plan and a quoted monthly fee, a VPN dedicated IP is $4.45–$15.95 a month, and a cloud IPv4 is about $3.65 a month. Hidden costs, AT&T blocks, and the cheapest option for each use.

Quick Answer

From an ISP, a static IP usually requires a business plan plus a per-address monthly fee that sales quotes by region; Comcast’s add-on was $19.95 a month in a 2021 quote, business service only. AT&T sells blocks (8 addresses, 5 usable) priced on request. A PureVPN dedicated IP costs $4.45 a month on a 2-year plan, $7.73 on 1 year or $15.95 monthly, with port forwarding as an add-on. A public IPv4 on AWS is $0.005 an hour, about $3.65 a month plus the server.

A static IP address costs very different amounts depending on where it comes from. From an ISP it usually means a business plan plus a monthly fee per address, quoted per region: Comcast’s add-on was $19.95 a month in a 2021 quote, on top of a business plan. A VPN dedicated IP costs $4.45–$15.95 a month at PureVPN, and a cloud IPv4 on AWS is $0.005 an hour, about $3.65 a month plus the server.

The fee on the bill is rarely the real cost, and that is where most people overpay. For ISPs, the business plan you must move to is the bigger number; for a VPN, port forwarding is a separate add-on if people need to reach you. The table compares every route, then shows which one is cheapest for what you want to do.

Big ISPs do not publish static IP prices; AT&T, Comcast Business, Spectrum Business and Verizon Business all quote them through sales. Price-guide sites list numbers that disagree widely, so ask for a written quote that includes the plan change and any setup fee.

Hidden Costs of an ISP Static IP

  • Plan upgrade. Most large providers only sell static IPs on business service, which costs more than the home plan it replaces.
  • Blocks, not single addresses. AT&T’s smallest listed block has 8 addresses, of which 5 are usable, because 3 are reserved for the network, gateway and broadcast.
  • Contracts and setup fees. Business plans often come with a term contract and a one-time activation charge.
  • CGNAT. If the ISP cannot take your line off carrier NAT, the static IP fee buys nothing. Check with how to check for CGNAT before you pay.

Static IP Cost FAQ

A public static IP usually does. Large ISPs sell it with business plans for a monthly fee; VPN dedicated IPs and cloud IPv4 addresses are also paid. A local static IP inside your home network is free: you reserve it in your router.

AT&T does not publish the price; its support page asks you to contact AT&T. It sells static addresses in blocks, and the smallest listed block of 8 gives 5 usable addresses.

Prices are the providers’ published figures on the date checked, except where marked as a dated quote. ISP pricing varies by address, plan and contract.
