PlayStation 5 NAT Guides
Medium
Estimated time: 10-15 minOverview
PlayStation 5 uses NAT type to determine network connectivity. An Open NAT (Type 1 or 2) provides the best online gaming experience.
Step-by-Step Guide
1Go to Settings
From the PS5 home screen, navigate to Settings > Network > View Connection Status.
2Check NAT Type
Look for "NAT Type" in the connection status. Type 1 is Open, Type 2 is Moderate, Type 3 is Strict.
3Enable UPnP on Router
Access your router settings and enable UPnP. This allows PS5 to automatically configure port forwarding.
4Test Connection
Go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection to verify your NAT type has improved.
Pro Tips
- Use a wired ethernet connection for best results.
- If UPnP does not work, try manual port forwarding for PSN (TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480 | UDP: 3478, 3479).
- Restart your router after making changes.
Troubleshooting
Still not working?
If NAT type remains strict, contact your ISP. Some ISPs use carrier-grade NAT which cannot be changed from your end.
