TalkTalk Port Forwarding: Wi-Fi Hub, Huawei & Super Router Steps
Port forward on a TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub (Sagemcom or Huawei Black) or Super Router: exact menus from TalkTalk, IP reservation, no static IP, and fixes when ports stay closed.
Quick Answer
To port forward on TalkTalk, open 192.168.1.1 and sign in with the details on the router sticker. On the Wi-Fi Hub (Sagemcom) go to See internet settings > Manage advanced settings > Access Control > Add Rule; on the Wi-Fi Hub Black (Huawei) go to Advanced Configuration > Forward Rules > IPv4 Port Mapping. Reserve the device’s IP first. TalkTalk does not give residential customers a static IP, so use dynamic DNS. If the port still will not open, a VPN with port forwarding such as Proton VPN or PureVPN bypasses the router.
TalkTalk port forwarding is set up in your router at 192.168.1.1, but the menu depends on which TalkTalk router you have. On the white Wi-Fi Hub (Sagemcom) it is under Manage advanced settings > Access Control > Add Rule; on the Wi-Fi Hub Black (Huawei) it is Advanced Configuration > Forward Rules > IPv4 Port Mapping. The make and model are printed on the sticker on the back of the router.
TalkTalk also says to reserve an IP address for the device you forward to, and it does not give residential customers a static IP, so plan for the public address changing. If the rule still does nothing, see troubleshooting or open the port through a VPN. Compare Virgin Media and Sky if you are switching providers.
TalkTalk Router Port Forwarding Menus
Paths below follow TalkTalk’s own help article for each router.
TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub (Sagemcom)
- Where:
- 192.168.1.1, with the username and password on the sticker under the removable settings card
- Path:
- See internet settings > Manage advanced settings > Access Control > Add Rule tab > Add Rules Manually (or pick a preset under Games & Applications) > Add > Apply
- Good to know:
- The Games & Applications presets save typing, but check the ports match what your game or app documents today.
How to Port Forward on a TalkTalk Router
- 1
Check the model
Read the make and model on the sticker on the back of the router (for example Huawei HG633) and pick it in the selector above.
- 2
Reserve the device’s IP
TalkTalk says to reserve an IP address when you forward to another device such as a camera, so the rule keeps pointing at it after a reboot.
- 3
Sign in at 192.168.1.1
Use the router username and password from the sticker (under the removable settings card on Wi-Fi Hubs).
- 4
Add the rule
Open the port forwarding menu for your model, enter the port or range, the protocol (TCP, UDP or both) and the device, then Apply or Save.
- 5
Allow it on the device
Windows Defender Firewall, a NAS firewall or the server software can still drop the connection. Add an inbound rule for the same port.
- 6
Test from outside
Use mobile data or a port checker while the app is running. Testing your own public IP from inside the house can fail even when the rule works.
TalkTalk Static IP, Dynamic DNS and CGNAT
TalkTalk staff told customers on its (now closed) community forum that residential broadband, including full fibre, does not come with a static IP. Your public address can change, so friends or remote apps that connect by IP will eventually break. Use a dynamic DNS name, or route the service through a VPN with a dedicated IP.
If forwarding never works on any router, check for carrier NAT: compare the WAN IP on the router’s status page with the public IP shown by our NAT checker. A mismatch, or a WAN IP between 100.64 and 100.127, means another NAT layer upstream, and router rules alone cannot open the port. See port forwarding behind CGNAT.
TalkTalk Port Forwarding Not Working? Check These
The preset uses the wrong ports
The device changed IP
A mesh or second router in front
Trigger rule instead of forward
Nothing is listening yet
Public IP changed
Check the result with our NAT checker from outside your network, or work through the full port forwarding not working checklist.
Open a Port Without TalkTalk’s Router: Port-Forwarding VPN
If the TalkTalk router refuses to open the port, you are behind another NAT layer, or you want a fixed address TalkTalk will not sell to home customers, a VPN with port forwarding gives you an open port that does not depend on the router at all. Your PC keeps an outbound tunnel open and the VPN server forwards a public port down it.
Proton VPN
- Port forwarding on all paid plans (Windows, Linux; macOS in early access)
- Works behind any TalkTalk router, mesh or double NAT
- One random port; it usually changes when you reconnect
- Keeps your TalkTalk IP out of torrent swarms and game lobbies
- 30-day money-back guarantee
2-year plan
PureVPN
- Open all ports in one click, or add specific ports up to 15 at a time
- A fixed address TalkTalk does not offer residential customers
- Optional dedicated IP that stays the same between sessions
- Apps for Windows, macOS, Linux and routers
- 31-day money-back guarantee
5-year plan·$1.69/mo $12.95/mo

Rule of thumb: if the app lets you type in any port (qBittorrent, Soulseek), Proton’s random port is enough. If the server needs a fixed port or a range (Minecraft 25565, Arma 3 2302–2306, an NVR), choose PureVPN. NordVPN, Surfshark and ExpressVPN do not forward ports; more providers are compared in our VPN port forwarding guide.
