Spotify Change Location: Fix Country & Payment Errors (2026)

Change your Spotify country after moving, fix a missing region option, and update Premium payment details without confusing IP, account, and billing locations.

Quick answer

If you moved, open Spotify in a browser, go to Edit profile, choose the country you are actually in, and save. If that country is missing even though you are there, Spotify may be misreading your public IP: connect NordVPN to a server in that same country and reload the account page. Premium users may still need a payment method issued in the new country, so a VPN cannot change billing country or a Family/Duo address by itself.

“Spotify location” can mean your account country, the country detected from your current connection, or the country that issued your Premium payment method. Changing the wrong one is why many fixes fail.

Choose your Spotify situation

The correct fix depends on the plan and whether you moved or are only traveling.

Selected path

If you use Spotify Free and moved

  1. 1Use the complete profile-country walkthrough below; the controls are on Spotify’s account website.
  2. 2If the country is missing, continue to the public-IP checks instead of repeating the profile form.

Important: A free account works abroad for up to 14 days. After that, Spotify says the account country must be updated to keep playing.

Paid VPNs that can fix Spotify IP location

Start with NordVPN when Spotify maps your public IP to the wrong country. Proton VPN is the open-source alternative, and PureVPN offers a slightly longer initial refund window. We do not recommend a free plan for this query because dependable country selection is the feature you need. Account, payment, and household rules still apply.

Best first try

NordVPN

  • Sixth independent no-logs assurance completed by Deloitte in 2025
  • 10 devices can be protected at the same time
  • Native apps cover browsers, phones, desktops, and TVs
  • 30-day refund window for eligible initial purchases
Open-source alternative

Proton VPN

  • Apps are fully open source and independently audited
  • Paid plans provide specific-country choice across 140+ countries
  • Up to 10 simultaneous connections on paid plans
  • 30-day refund window for eligible paid purchases
31-day test window

PureVPN

  • KPMG can assess the no-log systems without advance notice
  • 6,000+ servers across 65+ countries
  • Up to 10 device logins with one account
  • 31-day refund window for eligible initial purchases

Provider facts and refund terms checked July 31, 2026. Eligibility depends on the purchase channel and current terms. A refund window reduces the cost of testing a location; it does not override Spotify’s residency, payment, or plan rules.

How to change country on Spotify

Make the change on Spotify’s website. The app is useful for playback, but the full country and payment controls live on the account page.

Spotify Free

Change the profile country

  1. 1Sign in at spotify.com/account and open Edit profile.
  2. 2Scroll to Country or region.
  3. 3Select the country where you are currently located.
  4. 4Choose Save profile, then sign back in to the app if needed.
Spotify Premium

Update payment country

  1. 1Sign in and open the account overview.
  2. 2Choose Update beside the payment method.
  3. 3Enter a payment method issued in the new country or region.
  4. 4Expect the change to apply from the next billing date.

Spotify country missing or greyed out? Fix it in order

Spotify says the new country appears only when you are actually there. If that condition is already true, work through these checks one at a time.

Check 1

Use a browser, not the Spotify app

Open spotify.com/account, choose Edit profile, and scroll to Country or region. The mobile and desktop apps do not expose the complete country flow.

Check 2

Verify the public IP country

Check the public IP on the same device. If the result is wrong even though you are in the target country, reconnect the network or use a paid VPN server in that same country.

Check 3

Remove conflicting location signals

Disconnect old VPNs or proxies, close extra Spotify tabs, clear Spotify cookies, and reopen the account page only after the intended connection is active.

Check 4

Match Premium payment origin

Premium may require a payment method issued in the new country. The profile will not be fixed by changing an IP address alone.

Check 5

Update Apple or Facebook country settings

Spotify says accounts created with Apple or Facebook also need the country or region updated with that sign-in service.

Check 6

Wait for the billing date

A Premium country and payment update takes effect from the next billing date. Repeating the change will not make that date arrive sooner.

Household plans

Spotify Family and Duo location is an address check

Family and Duo members must live with the plan manager and provide the same full address. Spotify says it checks the address rather than continuously tracking member locations. The plan manager can choose only an address in the same country as the payment method.

  • Use the real household address; do not enter someone else’s.
  • Members may be asked to verify when joining, after an address change, or when Spotify cannot confirm the information.
  • A failed verification email has a seven-day response window.
  • A VPN cannot replace the shared-address or payment-country requirement.

Account country, concert location, and download location are different

Similar searches often combine three unrelated controls. Use the account-country process only when you moved, hit the 14-day Free limit, or need local billing.

Account country

Change it on the web account page after a move. It affects service, pricing, and catalog availability.

Concert recommendations

Change the location inside Spotify’s live-events or Concerts experience; this does not change billing country.

Install or download storage

Change the app or offline-storage setting on the device. It has no connection to country or region.
