Optimum Port Forwarding: Set Up Rules in My Network (optimum.net)
Optimum port forwarding is set at optimum.net/mynetwork, not a router address. Basic rules, Advanced Port management, port triggering, double NAT and fixes.
Quick Answer
Optimum port forwarding is managed online. Sign in at optimum.net/mynetwork with your Optimum ID, select Port forwarding at the bottom of the page, then Manage, pick the device, enter a unique rule name, the external and internal ports and the protocol, and Save. If the device is not listed, use Advanced settings > Port management > Add New Port Forwarding Rule and locate the device by host name. If you use your own router behind the Optimum gateway, forward on both or avoid double NAT. A VPN with port forwarding opens ports without touching the gateway.
Optimum port forwarding is set up online, not by typing a router address: sign in at optimum.net/mynetwork with your Optimum ID, choose Port forwarding > Manage at the bottom of the page, pick the device and enter the external port, internal port and protocol. If the device is not listed, use Advanced settings > Port management instead.
Optimum recommends locating the device by host name; if you use its IP address, reserve that address first or the rule can stop working later. When a rule still does nothing, see troubleshooting or open the port through a VPN. Other US providers: Xfinity, Spectrum, AT&T.
Three Ways to Open Ports on Optimum
All three live in Optimum’s My Network portal.
Port forwarding (device list)
- Where:
- optimum.net/mynetwork, signed in with your Optimum ID
- Path:
- Port forwarding (bottom of the page) > Manage > select a device > rule name, External ports, Internal ports, Protocol > Save
- Good to know:
- Each rule needs a unique name. This is the quickest route when your PC, console or NAS shows up in the device list.
How to Set Up Port Forwarding on Optimum
- 1
Sign in to My Network
Go to optimum.net/mynetwork and sign in with your Optimum ID and password.
- 2
Open Port forwarding
At the bottom of the page select Port forwarding, then Manage, and choose the device that runs the game or server.
- 3
Enter the rule
Give the rule a unique name, enter the external port(s) the service needs, the internal port(s) on the device, and the protocol. Select Save.
- 4
Device missing? Use Port management
Go back to the dashboard, open Advanced settings > Port management and add the rule there, locating the device by host name.
- 5
Allow it on the device
Add an inbound rule in Windows Defender Firewall or the NAS firewall for the same port.
- 6
Test from outside
Use mobile data or a port checker while the app is running.
Optimum Gateway Plus Your Own Router: Avoid Double NAT
If a mesh system or gaming router is plugged into the Optimum gateway, your device sits behind two NAT layers. A rule in My Network that points at the device will not reach it, because the device is not on the gateway’s network. Either forward the port in My Network to your own router’s WAN address and again on your router, or ask Optimum about running the gateway in a pass-through mode so only your router does NAT.
Optimum Port Forwarding Not Working? Check These
The device is not in the list
The rule points at an old IP
A port trigger instead of a forward
Double NAT behind your own router
Nothing is listening yet
Public IP changed
Check the result with our NAT checker from outside your network, or work through the full port forwarding not working checklist.
Open a Port Without Optimum’s Router: Port-Forwarding VPN
If My Network refuses to save the rule, you are stuck with double NAT, or you would rather not expose your home IP to players and peers, a VPN with port forwarding gives you an open port that does not depend on the Optimum gateway. Your PC keeps an outbound tunnel open and the VPN server forwards a public port down it.
Proton VPN

2-year plan
PureVPN
- Open all ports in one click, or add specific ports up to 15 at a time
- Fixed ports for Minecraft, Arma 3, Plex or an NVR
- Optional dedicated IP that stays the same between sessions
- Apps for Windows, macOS, Linux and routers
- 31-day money-back guarantee
5-year plan·$1.69/mo $12.95/mo

Rule of thumb: if the app lets you type in any port (qBittorrent, Soulseek), Proton’s random port is enough. If the server needs a fixed port or a range (Minecraft 25565, Arma 3 2302–2306, an NVR), choose PureVPN. NordVPN, Surfshark and ExpressVPN do not forward ports; more providers are compared in our VPN port forwarding guide.
