Fortnite Matchmaking Error: Fix Failed Matches and Parties

Check whether Epic is down, then follow the steps for failed solo matches, party joins, or a restricted console NAT result.

Quick Answer

Check Epic Games Public Status. Wait if Matchmaking, Parties, or Login shows an outage.

If status is clear, fully restart Fortnite and try a standard solo match. Continue with the match fixes if solo fails, or the party steps if solo works.

For error -91, check Party Joinability, crossplay, the clock, and cache. If the console network test reports restricted NAT, open the guide for that console.

Check this before changing settings

Is Fortnite matchmaking down right now?

Open Epic Games Public Status and expand Fortnite. If Matchmaking, Parties, or Login shows an outage, wait until it returns to Operational. If all three are Operational, continue with the error code and fixes below.

Open Epic Games Public Status

Fortnite matchmaking error codes and what they mean

Match the number and main wording on your screen. Two messages can use error #2, so the words after the number decide the next step.

#1“Weird. We couldn’t connect to the match.”

Epic service maintenance or a failed network connection.

Check status, restart Fortnite, then follow the four fixes below.

#1 [1.1.14]The Battle Bus already left for the tournament.

Fortnite did not put you into that tournament match.

Check the event window and eligibility. If both are correct, use the same steps as error #1.

#2Content beacon connection problem.

Fortnite could not reach the service used by that content.

Check status and try an Epic-made mode such as Battle Royale Solo.

#2You are not permitted to play this content.

The account may not meet a competitive event requirement.

Check the tournament rules, rank, age, and account requirements.

#3All Battle Buses appear to be full.

The queue is full right now.

Wait a few minutes, then queue again.

#5Fortnite cannot connect you to a match.

A server or network connection problem.

Check status, restart Fortnite, then follow the four fixes below.

#7Fortnite shows matchmaking error #7.

Epic groups #7 with #5.

Use the same status, restart, and connection checks as #5.

Do these in order

How to fix the Fortnite matchmaking error

Test matchmaking after each step and stop when it works.

  1. 1

    Restart Fortnite and install updates

Cancel the queue, quit Fortnite completely, restart the device, and install any game or system update.

  2. 2

    Try a standard solo playlist

Clear any custom matchmaking key, choose an Epic-made mode such as Battle Royale Solo, and set Matchmaking Region to Auto.

  3. 3

    Restart the home network

Stop large downloads, use Ethernet when possible, then unplug the modem and router for 60 seconds. Wait until the connection is fully back before opening Fortnite.

  4. 4

Try one match on a phone hotspot

Connect the same device to a phone hotspot and try once without changing the account, playlist, or region.

What the phone-hotspot test tells you

Hotspot works

Restart the modem and router. If the home connection still fails, change DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8, then contact the internet provider.

Both networks fail

Verify the game, sync the clock, clear the device cache, and check any tournament eligibility message shown on screen.
