VPN for Algeria: Get an Algerian IP Address From Abroad

Algérie Poste’s ECCP, Jibayatic, CNAS and Progrès timed out in our test from 12 countries outside Algeria. Which VPNs have Algeria servers, why most are virtual, the 2026 baccalaureate cuts, and setup steps.

Quick Answer

Several Algerian portals don’t open from abroad: in our November 2026 test, Algérie Poste’s ECCP, Jibayatic, CNAS and Progrès timed out from every foreign location that answered. A VPN server in Algeria gives you an Algerian IP. Proton VPN has Algeria servers on paid plans, PureVPN has an Algiers location, and free plans have none. Most Algeria servers are virtual, so test your portal within the 30–31-day refund window.

From outside Algeria, several Algerian public portals don’t open at all. In our November 2, 2026 test from 12 locations in Europe, North America and Asia, Algérie Poste’s ECCP, the Jibayatic tax portal, CNAS and Progrès all timed out, while Radio Algérie loaded fine. If you live abroad and need your CCP account, taxes or university file, every failed login costs you a trip or a relative’s favour.

A VPN server in Algeria gives you an Algerian IP address. Proton VPN (paid plans) and PureVPN both have one. Most Algeria locations are virtual, though, so test the exact portal you need within the refund window.

Which Algeria VPN Situation Are You In?

  • You are abroad and an Algerian site or app won’t load: you need an Algerian IP. Read on.
  • You are in Algeria and want privacy on public Wi-Fi or access to a blocked site: any server outside Algeria works, and Proton’s Stealth protocol helps where VPNs are filtered.
  • You are in Algeria during the baccalaureate: see the exam section below; cuts are now limited to exam centres.

After connecting, check that your public IP address shows Algeria.

Our test

Algerian Portals Tested From Outside Algeria

We requested each site over HTTPS from check-host.net’s test servers in countries including Spain, Germany, the UK, Switzerland, Canada, the US, India and Singapore.

SiteAddressResult from abroad
Algérie Poste customer area (ECCP)eccp.poste.dzTimed out from all 10 locations that answered
Tax portal Jibayaticjibayatic.mfdgi.gov.dzTimed out from all 12 locations
CNAS (social security)www.cnas.dzTimed out from all 11 locations that answered
Progrès (universities)progres.mesrs.dzTimed out or dropped from all 11 locations that answered
Radio Algérie (control)www.radioalgerie.dzLoaded (HTTP 200) from 11 of 12 locations

Portals failing abroad while another Algerian site loads is the pattern of geo-blocking, though a portal can also simply be down. Retry later before you conclude it is blocked for you.

Virtual Algeria Servers: What They Can and Can’t Do

Many VPN “Algeria” servers are virtual: the IP address is registered to Algeria, but the machine sits in another country. NordVPN says its Algeria server is in Spain, and PureVPN lists Algiers as a virtual location it kept when it cut 64 others in April 2025. Sites that check your IP country accept a virtual Algerian IP. A portal that only lets in traffic from Algerian networks may still refuse it.

How to Get an Algerian IP Address

  1. Sign up for a paid plan and install the app on the device you use for the portal.
  2. Connect to an Algeria server (Proton) or Algiers (PureVPN).
  3. Check that your public IP shows Algeria.
  4. Clear the site’s cookies or use a private window, then open the portal.
  5. If it still fails, try another Algeria server or protocol; if nothing works, ask for a refund within the window.

Internet Cuts During the Baccalaureate

From 2018 Algeria cut or throttled the internet nationwide during the baccalaureate. In June 2025 there was no general cut, and for the June 2026 session the education minister announced cuts limited to exam centres and their immediate surroundings during exam hours. A VPN does not bring back a connection that is physically cut; it only helps where specific apps are blocked.

Algeria VPN Not Working?

The portal still won’t load

The site may only accept Algerian networks, or it may be down. Try again at another time, try the other provider’s Algeria server, and keep the refund window in mind.

IP shows Spain or another country

Some lookup sites show a virtual server’s physical country. What matters is what the portal sees; test the portal itself.

The app keeps failing on mobile

Phone apps can use your SIM’s location or cached data. Clear the app’s cache and turn the VPN on before opening it.

VPN won’t connect in Algeria

Switch to Proton’s Stealth protocol or WireGuard over TCP. During exams, cuts near exam centres affect the whole connection.

Algeria VPN FAQ

Not one with an Algerian IP that we can recommend. Proton says its free plan has no Algeria servers, and PureVPN has no free plan. Free apps that advertise Algerian IPs often sell your data or show ads. Proton gives 30 days and PureVPN 31 days to get your money back if the portal still refuses you.

An extension only covers the browser. That is enough for websites like ECCP, but not for phone apps or other programs. For apps, use the full VPN app on the phone or computer.
